How to Take a 4 Week Vacation® Part 2
Small business owners deserve a 4-week vacation! Unfortunately, too many entrepreneurs think that’s impossible and way out of reach for them. I’m on a mission to change that mindset and help small business owners take back their lives from their businesses. This is what we do at Tap the Potential every single day. We are in a series of podcast episodes around this topic to show entrepreneurs how to take a fully unplugged 4-week vacation.
In last week’s episode, we talked about the mindset shift that has to happen for you to prepare your business to grow and sustain itself if you step away for one week, two weeks, or that 4-week vacation. We also discussed the dynamic of over-functioning/under-functioning with your team, along with delegating tasks and focusing on $ 10,000-an-hour activities. If you missed Part 1, go back and listen now! Today’s topic is how to set your team up for success, which is a key piece to your 4-week vacation. Let’s get started!
How to Take a 4 Week Vacation®️ Part 1

It takes intentionality to prevent your business from taking over your life, and I want to help. The next few episodes of the podcast will include excerpts from my book, The 4 Week Vacation, with the hope that, wherever you are in your business, you can start to implement those small steps that will make a difference for you over time. Is Your Business Taking Over Your Life?
Is your business taking over your life? This is an important question to ask as you check in with yourself. It may be more accurate to ask the people around you what they are seeing. We business owners focus on putting out daily fires in our business to the point that we have no awareness of how other people see us, and those whom we love the most are watching us struggle and suffer. Don’t we owe it to them (and ourselves) to do better?
I wrote the book, The 4 Week Vacation, to help business owners learn that work supports life and not the other way around. We developed our Better Business Better Life Jumpstart to help entrepreneurs and small business owners learn to recognize the signs that their businesses are taking over their lives so they can stop the cycle before it accelerates to burnout. In today’s episode, I want to give you some important questions to ask to help you figure out if your business is taking over your life, along with steps you can take to reverse the trend.
Your Mental Health Matters
Believe it or not, the month of May is winding down, and I want to acknowledge Mental Health Awareness Month with a topic that is vitally important for EVERY entrepreneur. Your mental health matters! It is important for you to take good care of yourself, check in with yourself, and understand where you are in relation to burnout. I know burnout; I’ve been there, I’ve studied it, and I know how hard it is to come out of a season of burnout. Burnout is not fun for you or your loved ones, and it’s not a healthy situation for you, your mental health, or your business. Join me for a closer look.
Why is Leadership So Hard?
During my recent travels and interactions with small business owners and entrepreneurs, a recurring theme emerged in our conversations. Many business owners approached me, seeking advice on the difficulties they face in leading their organizations. It struck me how prevalent this question was: Why is it so hard to lead in our small businesses? Let’s explore why this challenge exists and recognize that while you excel in your area of expertise, there is little formal training available on leading in the context of a small business. So, join me as we delve into this important topic and uncover valuable insights along the way.
Figuring out people and learning how different people handle relationships and anxiety were the things that prompted my interest in psychology, which led me to get a Ph.D. in counseling psychology. I wanted to help people with their challenges—and I still do. It is perfectly normal to struggle with learning to lead, but it is SO important on many levels. Your leadership and your ability to build a team and delegate impact your profitable revenue and growth. In Episode 238, I did a deep dive into getting out of your own way to be profitable in your business; go back and listen to learn more. That episode ties into today’s topic because learning to lead in your small business is the key to your profitability and freeing up your time so you can take your life back.
