2020 Strategic Planning, Part 1

You’re invited to join Dr. Sabrina on a strategic planning journey on the podcast over the course of the next 4 weeks.

Dr. Sabrina and Mike have an episode lined up for January around “Designing for Profit in 2020. Leading up to that, Dr. Sabrina will be taking us through a process of reflecting on what we have learned during 2019, focusing on wins and successes, and using insights from that to set us up for even more success in 2020.

You’ll want to grab a notebook or journal and a pen to capture your insights. You’ll also want to hear her explain the science behind why it’s so important to write your answers down!

Show Highlights:

  • As you reflect on 2019, consider these questions as a way to own your wins and successes:
  • How did you improve the profitability of your business this year?
  • Did you increase the revenue in your business this year?
  • What did you do to improve your service delivery, particularly with respect to your top clients and customers?
  • What did you do with respect to your hiring? Did you fire anybody this year? Did you release any team members who were not a good fit and help them find opportunities elsewhere?
  • Did you hire some A-players? Did you improve your systems for attracting and hiring A-players?
  • Did you improve your team? Did you do anything to help your employees grow and support them in their personal development?
  • Did you do anything this year to increase your emotional intelligence as leader?
  • What did you do to make your marketing more effective and more efficient? How did you make better use of your marketing dollars?
  • Have you taken more time off in 2019 than you have in the past?
  • What have you already put in place that you want to do more with in 2020?
  • What are the projects you’ve been working on, that are almost done, but not quite there? What do you need to complete?
  • Identify the things that you have put in place this year that are working exceptionally well.
  • Identify the things that did not work so well or did not bring the expected results, and consider cutting those things.
  • What could you stop doing in 2020?
  • Think about the lessons you learned as you conducted business in 2019. What insights did you have that you can take forward and build on?
  • What were the breakdowns?  What didn’t go well? What did you put in place to improve it? If you haven’t put anything in place, consider this as part of your strategic planning for 2020.
  • Dr. Sabrina discusses why and how to identify your top clients.

About The Author

Dr. Sabrina Starling, The Business Psychologist and international best-selling author of the How to Hire the Best series and The 4 Week Vacation™, is the founder of Tap the Potential and host of the Profit by Design podcast. At Tap the Potential, we work to free business owners from the constant demands of a growing business.

We believe work supports life, not the other way around. Clients in our Better Business, Better Life coaching program have more time for what matters most and more money in their bank account than they’ve ever had. Next, we send them off on a 4 Week Vacation™ to celebrate their hard-earned journey to take their life back!

Dr. Sabrina and her team at Tap the Potential are on a mission to change the story of entrepreneurship from one of long hours, grinding it out, to one of sustainably profitable businesses that support and enhance life. The Tap the Potential Solution™ and our Tap the Potential Family of Business Owners are disrupting small business as usual. We are on our way to making the Tap the Potential Solution™ the mainstream model for growing business.

By 2023, 150 Tap the Potential clients will have taken 4 Week Vacations. These are the trailblazers, role modeling what’s possible for entrepreneurs. In many entrepreneurial circles, it is becoming more and more common for one entrepreneur to ask another, “Have you taken a 4 Week Vacation™?” (as opposed to asking “How many employees do you have?” or “What is your annual revenue?”). Taking a fully unplugged 4 Week Vacation is rapidly becoming the recognized symbol of entrepreneurial success.

Never one to accept the status quo or back down from a challenge, Dr. Sabrina’s How to Hire the Best series grew from her desire to solve the toughest hiring challenges interfering with her clients’ growth and profitability. What sprang from her experience working with entrepreneurs in rural areas catapulted her into becoming the world’s leading expert in attracting top talent in small businesses—no matter what hiring challenges those businesses are facing—and earned Tap the Potential’s reputation as the go-to resource for entrepreneurs committed to creating Great Places to Work with thriving coaching cultures and highly engaged team members working from strengths.

As The Business Psychologist, and with her years of driving profit in small businesses, Dr. Sabrina knows what it takes to find, keep, and motivate exceptional performance out of your biggest investment—team members.
