Dr. Sabrina’s Strategies for Effective End of Year Strategic Planning (Part 3 of 4)

Today I want to talk to about what you want to create in 2018. I have a very powerful inquiry question that I want to share with you. In coaching, we call an inquiry question a question that you don’t have an immediate answer to, you have to sit with it for a while…several days usually, this is a very powerful question. So I really do invite you to sit with it. Of course pay attention to the first things that come up for you when I ask you this question.  Also, get a notebook and plan to carry that notebook or your phone and take notes on your phone. Carry that around with you and as the ideas come to you over the coming days and the coming week, jot those ideas down.

So are you ready? Here’s that powerful question:

I want you to imagine that it is December 31st, 2018, and you are reflecting on your year and you are so tickled pink with how well the year has gone and how much success and joy and happiness you’ve experienced. Write down everything that has happened in 2018 that has contributed to that feeling.

Now I want you to pay attention to the fact that I asked you to look at both your business and your personal life. At Tap The Potential, we have an Immutable Law that work supports life and not the other way around. In other words, your business needs to be supporting a high quality of life.

So instead of thinking about what you want to create in your business in 2018, I invite you to start with your personal life and what kind of life you really want to experience in 2018. Consider the different aspects of your life. So your own personal and spiritual growth that you want to undertake in 2018. How do you want to improve your relationships and what do you need to do? What do you need to focus on in 2018 to take your important relationships to the next level? Think about personal finances and how you want to improve those in 2018. Think about your health, how well are you sleeping, how well are you exercising daily, are you getting enough exercise every day? Are you eating well? All those different things that contribute to good health for us.

Think about travel and experiences that you want to have in 2018. Think about your personal surroundings in the environment around you, your home and your office, how those impact you and what changes you might like to make or improvements that you might like to make in those in 2018.

So what needs to be happening in your business so that you are experiencing a high quality of life? Think about the different aspects of your business. Think about the profitability of the business. Think about the finances and all the systems that you have in place around the finances of your business. Think about the sweet spot of your business and how you want to improve this product and service delivery around your sweet spot in your business. Think about the systems that you have in place in the sweet spot. Think about those top customers and clients within the sweet spot of your business and how you want to serve them better and better in 2018. Think about the team that you want to have in place by the end of 2018 and what you need them to be doing. The core values, the immutable laws that you want them to be expressing as part of the business.

Don’t get bogged down in the ‘how?’ right now. That is our pitfall when it comes to this type of visioning.We go too quickly to asking, ‘well , how do I make that happen?’ and that short circuits that creative brainstorming that we need to be doing first.

Next week I’ll talk to you about the ‘how’ so just hold tight. Right now I just want you to get really focused on the ‘what.’ What is it that you’re trying to create? And as you’re writing down your ideas about what you’ve created in 2018, that’s led you to feel that it’s been an exceptional year, I want you to write in the present tense as if it is happening now. That is psychologically, that is very powerful for our subconscious mind to get to work on getting these things to become more and more real. Our non conscious, subconscious mind does not distinguish between fact or fiction.

So when we write about something that we intend to create and we write as if it is happening now, we activate that part of our brain that starts to want to bring that into alignment with our reality, so write as if it’s happening now. So for example, you would say, “Our business is generating one million in revenue annually. We are putting 10% aside in our profit first account, which means that over this last year we’ve been able to put a hundred thousand dollars into our profit account, and when we’ve taken distributions, we’ve been able to share some of the profit with our team members because they’ve been so instrumental in helping us achieve our profit goals.

Now what I want you to do with this vision is I want you to after you’ve brainstormed it, I want you to write it in a cohesive form that you can carry around with you and look at it…daily is best. Even read it out loud to yourself daily or record yourself reading it out loud and listen to yourself saying it everyday. 

Our brains do not like gaps, and anytime there is a gap between our current reality and what we want, and we have it clearly visualized what we want, our brain will go to work on filling that gap. So this is critical in terms of your strategic planning and making things happen.

Now I’ll be talking with you next week about how to chunk this down and to make some real plans for implementation in 2018, but for now just focus on the vision.

Now the other thing I want to let you know is what happens if we accept you as a client in 2018. Well here’s what we do, we kick off our client engagements with a Tap Your Profit potential SWOT analysis. That’s where I walk you through a very thorough evaluation of all aspects of your business. Your sweet spot, your profit, the finances in your business, your team, employees, hiring … we look at everything, your system service delivery. We look at your leadership. I identify your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. Now some of this is interview, some of it’s done by questionnaire and we even use a personality assessment because I want to understand what your strengths are and how we can bring all of this together to help you accomplish your goals in 2018. 

You leave that SWOT analysis with 4 to 5 really clear Action Steps to work on in the coming year. Many of our clients comment on how helpful it is to have really clear, four to five action steps to focus on as big rocks to move forward in the coming year because we all know as entrepreneurial small business owners, how many things are coming at us every single day.
